Thomas Vermaelen has played 11 times in two years for Barcelona
Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is set to end his unhappy spell at Barcelona and join Roma.
The Belgium international - who played for his country in Euro 2016 - has been given permission by Barca to undergo a medical with the Italian club.
He joined Barcelona from the Gunners in a £15m deal in 2014 but injuries have restricted him to just 11 appearances in La Liga.
Barca confirmed on Twitter: "With the club's permission, Thomas Vermaelen has travelled to Rome to undergo a medical with AS Roma
